When selecting a new lawn, it is essential to consider your local weather patterns and how shade can affect your yard throughout the year and understand the benefits of why you are choosing turf.
When choosing a turf variety, there is no 'one size fits all'. Different turf varieties require different maintenance levels, and anyone laying new turf must consider ongoing maintenance like mowing, watering, and fertilising throughout the year. Lawns like cooch require less constant mowing than Sir Walter Buffalo; however, SWB requires less direct sunlight to prosper and is less susceptible to weeds.
There are 6 top features we recommend most homeowners consider and look out for when choosing a variety.
Below is a list of the features you need to consider when choosing a turf variety:
Shade Tolerance
Drought Tolerance
Salt Tolerance
Low Maintenance
Wear Tolerance/Hard Wearing
Leaf Appearance
It is crucial to consider the resistance of your new lawn to pests such as insects and diseases. Some grass varieties are more susceptible to these nuisance pests, while others are much more tolerant. Talk with a lawn care professional for advice on what type of turf will work best for your area and lifestyle, and don't forget to grab your Plant Doctor Lawn Lovers Bundle to help maintain your investment.

27 June 2023Thank you for pointing out that there are different maintenance levels for different kinds of turf. We've been thinking about changing the grass we're using after finding so many dead and browning parts this year. I'll be sure to look into buffalo turf more to see if it might be a good fit for us. https://www.perthturfsupplies.com.au/lawn-varieties

25 April 2023It did catch my attention when you said that the ongoing maintenance including fertilizing and mowing must be considered when choosing a turf. This is something that I will share with my sister because she mentioned the other night over dinner that she is planning to find a reliable supplier of buffalo turf next week. She wants to achieve a greener look for her garden, so it will make sense for her to do your tips.
